The designer in the
Exterior Designer Mark Fetherston
on the design of the new A-Class.
On inspiration, processes and reactions.
"Why is the new A-Class so completely different to its predecessor?" – "What was the reaction from the Executive Board like when the design was presented for the first time?" – "What is your favourite feature?"
In the following two videos, Mark will answer these and some of the other questions from our community on Facebook and Google+. In the first film, everything revolves around the vehicle itself, whereas, in the video on the next page, he answers some more personal questions.

For the thrill of the challenge.
In 1999, Mark Fetherston graduated from Coventry University as a Transport Designer and has worked for Mercedes-Benz ever since. One of the latest projects for which he was also partly responsible was the design of the SLS AMG super sports car. But what is more difficult to create – a super sports car or a compact Mercedes?
"Because of its dynamism, a super sports car is easier to design – its proportions are per se already dynamic", explains Mark Fetherston. "But that’s the whole fun behind the challenge of trying to put the sporty dynamism of Mercedes-Benz into a car of the compact class."
