renowned and proving its attractiveness time and time again.

In February 2013, Michael Bock, Head of Mercedes-Benz Classic, personally greeted the 5-millionth visitor. "In 2013 we welcomed precisely 702,027 visitors to the Mercedes-Benz Museum. So we continue at a very high level. The numbers once again underline the continuing high attractiveness of the Mercedes-Benz Museum, now in its eighth year of existence.
We are particularly delighted to welcome larger numbers of guests from China, the United Kingdom and Russia," said Michael Bock. The proportion of guests from abroad rose to 40 percent, indicating a continuing trend towards increased internationalism.

Visitors came from more than 170 different countries. The crowd-puller last year was the special exhibition "Mercedes-Benz S-Class – always ahead of its time". In 2014, the focus will be on races and records: 120 years of motor sport. Most of the visitors who came from outside Germany in the past two years came from China and the USA. Mercedes-Benz serves the growing demand for guided tours in other languages: apart from in German and English, the total of 3000 guided tours conducted in 2013 were also offered in Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch. The language portfolio will be extended further in 2014.
"In coming years we will set up an international brand centre where visitors from near and far can experience the past, the present and also the future of the Mercedes-Benz brand and the automobile," said Michael Bock.
Family-friendly and accessible.
If the Mercedes-Benz Museum were to be given a school report at the end of the year, its visitors would give it an average mark of A-B. "You just have to see the museum," is a reason often given for going there, in answer to the regularly conducted surveys: this is not only in reference to the exhibits but also to the building's architecture. The Baden-Württemberg State Tourist Board once again gave the Mercedes-Benz Museum its seal of approval for family-friendliness in 2013. For the next three years, the museum can display the "family holidays" rating. A further prize was awarded for accessibility: the "Golden Wheelchair" was awarded by the ABS Club – the Centre for Independent Living for people with disabilities in Stuttgart.
A big experience for
The Mercedes-Benz Museum was also very well received on social media channels in 2013. The Facebook community has now grown to more than 140,000 fans. The 2014 Classic Calendar with the motto "Shooting Stars – from fans, for fans" was the first printed Mercedes-Benz calendar produced as a social media initiative. Fans of the brand were asked to submit their photos of a classic Mercedes-Benz vehicle via a Facebook app. Children enjoyed coming to the Mercedes-Benz Museum too. More than 10,000 children and young people participated actively in the 2013 hands-on exhibition entitled "Fascination Design". At the open workshops offered, on Saturdays and Sundays between 10 am and 5 pm, young visitors were able to get their hands on design studies and original models from the designers and developers.
Also, 365 school classes took up the offer from GeniusCampus of a personally accompanied visit, and almost 100 children's birthday parties were celebrated.
In 2013, the Mercedes-Benz Museum had many sparkling highlights. The special exhibition "Mercedes-Benz S-Class – always ahead of its time" presented the development stages over the past 110 years and underlined why the S-Class is the epitome of the automobile. It sent over 173,000 visitors on a fascinating journey through time from 1904 to the new S-Class of 2013. The museum was also popular as a versatile location for different events. In 2013 almost 190 events were staged with up to 5000 visitors per day, including the Long Night of Museums in March, the International Festival of Animated Film in April or the 20th Stuttgart jazzopen in July.
During Firefighters' Week in June, approximately 85 historic fire-fighting vehicles took part in different displays of "Rescuing, Recovering, Fire-fighting" to an audience of over 10,000 visitors.
On to new things.
The Open Air Cinema, which traditionally attracts many cinema-goers at the end of August, registered a new record number of visitors, welcoming more than 10,000 guests on 16 movie evenings. A novelty was the St. Cannstatt Chalet on the museum hill, where many guests were able to enjoy hearty cooking. And 2014 promises even more highlights: the market launch of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class will be accompanied by a special exhibition starting in the second half of the year. Fascinating exhibits from the development and design of the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class will be displayed, which will celebrate its world premiere on 13th January 2014 in Detroit. At the Mercedes-Benz Star Cuisine Nights from 4th to 9th February and from 18th to 30th November 2014, gourmets and food connoisseurs will once again be able to enjoy the finest
star-rated cuisine, and Radio Crime Play Week from 5th to 9th March 2014 promises tension and excitement. Also, the Mercedes-Benz Museum will once again be the venue for the Festival of Animated Film and for the Stuttgart jazzopen.
Motor sport celebrates
a special anniversary.
Besides these programmes, visitors can look forward to further exciting formats at the museum in summer and winter. In 2014 there will be a very special anniversary: 120 years of motor sport. In 1894 and 1895, cars with engines made by Daimler won the very first ever motor sports events. From then on, the Mercedes and Benz brands dominated international motor racing, reaching higher and higher speeds on record runs. These early great moments were followed by countless motor racing events marking historic victories in the success story of Mercedes-Benz. The cars in the racing curve of the Mercedes-Benz Museum's "Mythos 7" hall embody these magic moments of sporting history and let visitors get right up close to the fascination of motor sport, which began 120 years ago.
