The B-Class is the first Mercedes-Benz to provide
the new automatic driving experience.
The 7G-DCT dual clutch transmission combines efficiency, convenience and driving pleasure.
Drawing on over 50 years of experience in the development and production of automatic transmissions, Mercedes-Benz is venturing into new technical territory with the 7G-DCT dual clutch transmission: at the heart of the power transmission is an automated three-shaft manual transmission consisting of two sub-transmissions, each with their own clutch. Both actuation of the clutches and gear shifting take place fully automatically and without any interruption in tractive power. This enables a particularly comfortable but nevertheless dynamic mode of driving.
There is a choice of three gearshift programmes, namely ECONOMY, SPORT and MANUAL, in which gear changes can be carried out manually at any time via the shift paddles.
The seven forward gears of the transmission provide a high gear ratio spread with small jumps in engine speed, and therefore enable quick-acting, fuel-efficient gear changes with pleasantly soft transitions between gears. Another practical touch is the lack of a conventional selector lever in the centre console.
In the case of the 7G-DCT, this is located behind the steering wheel and, in combination with the foot-activated electronic parking brake, creates more space for additional storage facilities. As a result, the dual clutch transmission, like the B-Class overall, is able to demonstrate suitability for everyday use down the finest detail.
