in DTM finale at Hockenheim.
The DTM is a tough series.
On Saturday in Hockenheim, the DTM drivers completed the final qualifying session of the year ready for the grand finale. In qualifying, Mercedes-Benz driver Robert Wickens posted a lap time of 1:33.719 minutes to secure 13th position on the grid in the finale on Sunday. “The DTM is a tough series”, said Robert. “Unfortunately, I made a small error in Q2 and you need a perfect lap in the DTM in order to progress to the second session of the qualifying. I didn't manage it, but anything can happen in tomorrow's race.”
Final race of the season.
Mercedes Junior Pascal Wehrlein (1:33.839 minutes) will be in grid position 15, closely followed by British driver Gary Paffett (1:33.899 minutes) in P16. Daniel Juncadella (1:33.963 minutes), Christian Vietoris (D1:34.170 minutes) and Roberto Merhi (1:34.308 minutes) will be in grid positions 17, 20 and 21 respectively for the start of the final race of the season.
But we are not prepared to give up yet.
“Our congratulations to BMW on this impressive qualifying performance”, Wolfgang Schattling, Head of DTM Management. “Unfortunately, we have to admit that our result today was the exact opposite - our grid positions are disappointing in view of our aspirations. Our performance in qualifying at previous race weekends has not lived up to expectations and we will have to find out the cause during the winter months.”
“But we are not prepared to give up yet. On Sunday, we will still aim to achieve a respectable result for our fans and Mercedes staff here at our home race at Hockenheim. Maybe the weather will play into our hands.”
