2014 marks the start of Nico Rosberg's fifth season
with MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS.

Aged 17, Nico Rosberg was, at the time, the youngest driver ever to get behind the wheel of a Formula 1 racing car.

Huge talent.

Born on June 27th 1985 in Wiesbaden, Nico Rosberg, son of Finnish Formula 1 World Champion Keke Rosberg, had motor racing in his DNA right from birth. He gained his first experience in karting when just six years old. By the time he was 16, he had fought his way up to the highest echelon of kart racing, the international Formula Super A. In 2002, his huge talent earned him a Formula BMW cockpit, racing for Team Rosberg, his father's outfit. Nico proved that he had not been given the drive simply by virtue of his name when he won the championship. That same year, he was rewarded for his achievements with his first Formula 1 test for the Williams F1 team. Aged 17, he was, at the time, the youngest driver ever to get behind the wheel of a Formula 1 racing car.

Rosberg left the competition trailing far behind him in his first year and was crowned GP2 champion.

Champion.

Nico did not get his driver's licence until one year later but had by then already made quite a name for himself in the Formula 3 Euro Series. In 2006, French team ART Grand Prix signed Nico to drive in GP2, and there was no stopping him. He left the competition trailing far behind him in his first year and was crowned GP2 champion. Again, Frank Williams knocked on his door, this time to offer Nico a Formula 1 contract. On March 12th 2006, Nico made his Formula 1 debut for Williams as team-mate to Mark Webber and impressed by going on a sensational charge and posting the fastest lap of the race.

Aged just 20 years, 8 months and 13 days old at the time, he is still the youngest driver ever to have achieved this feat. In addition, he belongs to an elite group of drivers (Giuseppe Farina, Masahiro Hasemi and Jacques Villeneuve) who all succeeded in posting fastest lap in their first grand prix.

Nico finished his fourth season for MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS in sixth place overall on 171 world championship points, having taken victories in Monaco and in the UK.

New challenge.

After four years with Williams, Nico was looking for a new challenge and, in 2010, found his way to the Silver Arrows MERCEDES GP PETRONAS works outfit. Nico finished third on the podium in only his third race for the team. He repeated this success in China as well as at his team's home race in Silverstone, proving to all his critics that he could hold his own against team-mate and seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher.  On April 14th 2012, Nico secured his first pole position and then his first Grand Prix win one day later at the Chinese Grand Prix. Nico took an historic victory at the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix, exactly 20 years after his father Keke had won the prestigious race in the Principality. Nico finished his fourth season for MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS in sixth place overall on 171 world championship points, having taken victories in Monaco and in the UK.
