Mercedes-AMG has made a dynamic start to the 2012 convertible season. The presentation of the top-of-the-range SL 63 AMG eight-cylinder model was quickly followed by the new Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG, the V12 convertible in the Stuttgart automaker’s range. The AMG 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine develops a maximum power of 463 kW (630 hp) and a peak torque of 1,000 Newton metres. The use of a fully aluminium body-in-white similar to the SLS AMG super sports car has led to a dramatic reduction in weight. The new SL 65 AMG is 170 kilograms lighter than before. The result is exceptional performance, impressive power delivery and superior dynamics. For the first time, AMG has combined the 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC.
Thanks to its wide ratio spread, the seven-speed automatic transmission ensures a much lower engine speed, helping to reduce fuel consumption.

Apart from its technical features, the new SL 65 AMG is also clearly recognisable at a glance as a stylish and exclusive high-performance convertible and is easily distinguishable from the SL 63 AMG from the use of consciously selected chrome applications. The interior of the V12 flagship model likewise differs from its eight-cylinder sister model in the use of especially exclusive design and equipment features.
Particularly eye-catching are the electrically adjustable AMG sports seats in a diamond design. Even greater individuality can be added with the optional extras available from the AMG Performance Studio.
